A Karaoke Wedding Music, Lyrics and Musical Direction by Harry Blake Book by John Hilton Original Idea and Direction by Gabby Vautier Union Theatre, SE1 3 -21 April 2007
WHAT IS A KARAOKE WEDDING? "A KARAOKE WEDDING is a must see!" Sarah Monaghan, THEATREWORLD A Tale of Love, Loneliness and Latex Over 165,000 British couples divorced last year, but Bernadette and Dave are still desperate to enter a life of matrimonial bliss and Ikea furniture. Join them, and a whole host of characters, as they search for the secret to eternal happiness… A Karaoke Wedding is the brand new musical comedy that takes a cynical look at the materialistic madness surrounding ‘the most important day of your life'. It follows the story of a thoroughly modern couple who win their fantasy wedding in a radio competition. A dream come true for some, but in the hands of a belligerent bride-to-be, a dithering groom and best man in love with an inflatable doll, this Karaoke Wedding could prove to be a nightmare. Written by up-and-coming male comedy duo, lyricist and composer Harry Blake and playwright John Hilton, this musical features a cast of sixteen singing a bevy of original songs. ‘Karaoke Wedding' is the kitsch new musical satire that is guaranteed to have you dancing down the aisle KARA-OKAY OR KARA-NOWAY! You as the audience decide whether there will be live post-show karaoke in the bar afterwards by voting on the way in, whilst picking up a love bag from the bar! HOW IT STARTED The Karaoke Wedding story began in January 2006 and was the gin fuelled brain child of director Gabby Vautier and composer Harry Blake who decided it might be fun to write, rehearse and perform a show in 7 days with a community cast of 32 at Network Theatre in Waterloo. Due to its success it has been totally re-written and is being performed with a professional cast at the Union theatre, Southwark.
